The European Championship in Osijek came to an end

The 2013 European Championship 25/50/300m was officially closed by the ESC Vice-President Kerstin Bodin. In her final speech she said:

The 34th European Championship here in Osijek has come to an end and it is time to say goodbye.

On behalf of the Presidium of the European Shooting Confederation I would like to extend our warmest thanks and appreciation for the outstanding work of the Organising Committee and all the volunteers.

582 shooters from 39 nations have made 980 starts and during the 11 days of competitions we have seen excellent performance at the shooting ranges with high scores and exciting finals. In total we can sum up 19 new or equalled world and European records. This shows once again that the conditions for the shooters here at the Pampas shooting range are excellent.

A successful Championship needs an experienced, hardworking Organizing Committee and devoted volunteers. You have a long tradition of the shooting sport here in Osijek – shooting is in your hearts. From the very first day we have heard only nice comments from athletes and coaches and we all appreciate your warm hospitality, expressed, for example, at the pleasant barbeque banquette last week.

A big team is required to organise a perfect Championship like this here in Osijek and our gratitude goes to all of you. In addition we would like to award a few diplomas and three medals to the key persons of the Organizing Committee. I kindly ask another key person of this Championship, the Technical Delegate Mr. Willi Grill – who is also a member of the ESC Presidium, to assist me.

Finally I would like to thank you – athletes from all over Europe. You are the most important part of the teamwork. Your excellent performance, fair play and sportsmanship are the keys to the development and future success of the shooting sport and it has been a great pleasure to award a total of 82.500 Euros to 159 athletes, on behalf of the President, Mr. Vladimir Lisin.

The flag of the ESC will now be lowered and I kindly ask the young talented athletes Fillip Zadravec and Teodora Simic from the shooting club Osijek 1784 to receive the flag and hand it over to Mr. Josip Kuna, a famous athlete from the same club and a representative of the Croatian national team in Rifle 60 Prone. The flag will then be handed over to Mrs. Tatiana Goldobina from the Russian Shooting Union, organizing the 10m Championship next year.

I wish all of you a safe trip back home and a warm welcome to the Championship 2014. I hereby declare the 34th European Championship in Osijek, Croatia 2013 closed and I kindly ask you to rise for the official hymn of the European Shooting Confederation.
